Reporting to:  SVP Engineering
Position Summary 

The Materials Scientist reports to the Senior Vice President of Engineering and contributes to highly visible technology and product development activities within the engineering organization. In consultation with the Design and Product teams you are responsible for designing & conducting experiments, providing expert materials guidance, and developing manufacturable processes as part of the Research & Development team. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a high-tech, fast paced, product-development company. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Ownership, maintenance & optimization of luminescent materials for temperature sensing applications 

• Liaise with materials suppliers & academic partners to accelerate development of novel optical materials 

• Provide technical expertise to inform material selection by the engineering team & contribute to development of associated processes, enabling development of next gen high temperature, harsh environment sensors 

• Develop manufacturable processes to maintain/improve performance of new & existing product lines 

• Design of experiments for materials and system characterization 

• Contribute to culture of intellectual property generation 

• Drive development of next generation technologies 

• Communicate effectively within a cross-functional team 

Qualifications and Skills Required: 

• Masters and/or PhD in Material Science, Materials Engineering, Physics or Chemistry 

• Experience developing materials & related processes for commercial products 

• Must have significant experience with one or more of the following: luminescent materials (phosphor), adhesives, ceramics 

• Experience taking new products/technologies from concept to commercial realization and working in a lab or cleanroom environment 

• MATLAB, Python proficiency (short scripts) 

• Excellent technical, analytical, problem-solving skills, with strong attention to details 

• Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines 

• Strong communication skills (interpersonal and written) and organizational skills with a proven ability to collaborate with team members in a fast-paced multi-disciplined environment 

• Proactive and creative approach
