 This company is looking for a detail-oriented Optical or Mechanical or equivalent Engineer, who will work with members of the operational and engineering teams to manufacture laser technology. This successful candidate will use cross-functional leadership, technical knowledge and communication skills to release new products to a production environment. It is critical this individual be a self-driven, team player, with the ambition to learn more in-depth about laser technology and its subsystems.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation (assembly and test) for optical, mechanical and electrical designs for fiber and/or solid state laser systems (system and sub system level)
  • Establishes capacity model and leads implementation of production line in China
  • Diagnose, debug and document manufacturing issues for product yield and quality improvements
  • Provides production support through release process and provides support for Continuous Improvement Projects of quality, cost reduction and performance enhancements.
  • Improve implementation of 5S and lean manufacturing methodologies in production areas
  • Provides troubleshooting processes and effective communication processes for Manufacturing Engineers to implement corrective actions
  • Provides process yields and Pareto root cause tools for implementation of corrective actions in conjunction with Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Provides cross functional support for Laser and other L&M products to achieve department and company performance goals
  • Promote high standards of workmanship as defined by documentation while maintaining safety and (where applicable) proper clean room procedures

Education and Work Experience:

  • BS in Optics, B.A./B.S. in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and related fields or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with assembly, alignment and testing of lasers; components
  • Experienced in the use of laser test equipment, both optical (power meters, spectrometers interferometers, etc.) and electrical (oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, OSA, etc.)
  • Hands-on experience in laser alignment and test, diodes, electro-optics or similar technologies is a must
  • Must be able to travel periodically per project plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong commitment to process control and quality
  • Technical writing skills using Microsoft Word or other tools
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing procedure and process flow; experience and knowledge of 5S and lean manufacturing is a plus
  • Promoting high standards of workmanship as defined by documentation while maintaining safety and (where applicable) proper clean room procedures
  • Experience working with off-shore manufacturers and traveling to manufacturing sites a must
