Description

The PE will work at  the Boston site and will interface on a continuous basis  with the Product Management, design and production teams in Denmark.  While this is primarily a design role there will be some production, customer service and applications support particularly during the start-up phase of the Boston site.  The successful candidate  will be comfortable wearing many hats and  will know how  to prioritize in a strategic manner.

Principal Responsibilities

Provide applications and design support for ITAR related applications:

  • The PE  will be responsible for design modifications to these lasers as required by ITAR restricted customer applications in  the US. These design modifications could range  from simple repackaging of the laser though  to significant re-engineering  to enable new  functionality
  • The PE  will be expected to interface directly with customers to support sales in understanding custom requirements and developing solutions for meeting them.  Provide applications and troubleshooting support  to sales
  • Work with customers on applications.
  • Participate in enhancing the Technical Support function and establish second line support for customers - to resolve problems, provide  follow-up, RMA, liaise  with Production & engineering on repair and faults.
  • Provide technical support  to our customers by diagnosing the issues not handled by  first line, with a focus on high quality, accuracy and customer satisfaction.  Deliver remote support  to customers when required; troubleshoot equipment and plan corrective actions.
  • Work  with the R&D team and Production teams  to provide customer solutions and support the Sales team with upgrades and enquiries.  Establish the duplicate product line in Boston:
  • Work closely  with engineers, PLMS, technicians and operators in Denmark to ensure a smooth duplication of all equipment, production processes and  test methods.  Support and improve production processes:
  • Track production KPls.
  • Participate in the daily Gemba Walk.
  • Troubleshoot yield and test issues.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing problems.

Kev interactions

This is a very central  role. The PE  will interact  with:

  • Design engineering in Denmark
  • Customers and sales people in  the USA
  • Manufacturing in USA and in Denmark

Qualifications - Skills - Experience

  • Candidate should have at least Master's level degree in a relevant engineering  field (ideally lasers or photonics)
  • Should have a thorough practical and theoretical understanding of  fiber lasers and in particular low phase noise and ultrafast  fiber lasers including all aspects of testing.
  • Experience in process improvement, root cause analysis of quality issues, standard work (mfg. docs) is needed in early days when they need  to cover  the line. Some Lean experience preferred.
  • Must have excellent communication and people skills.
  • Five years design, production and applications experience in lasers (ideally  fiber lasers).
  • At least basic level skills in Solidworks and Zemax would be of considerable benefit.

Travel Requirements

Approximately 15o/o  annually. Travel  will be required  to meet with customers together with the sales team particularly those customers working in ITAR restricted areas. Travel will also be required from time to time to Denmark and possibly other design and manufacturing sites in Europe.
